When the body and mind are not in sync in sexual arousal
Sometimes the body's physical reactions do not match our feelings of arousal. This phenomenon is called arousal nonconcordance. This means that a woman can become physically aroused, such as getting wet, without feeling mentally or emotionally aroused – or conversely, feel mentally aroused without experiencing the physical signs of arousal. Researchers and sexologist Dr. Emily Nagoski have made this concept known and explain that the body's physical reactions do not always reflect our inner feelings. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about, even if it can sometimes feel confusing or frustrating ❤️.
EMILY NAGOSKI'S STUDY ON AROUSAL NONCONCORDANCE
Dr. Emily Nagoski, a well-known sexologist and researcher, has studied the phenomenon of arousal nonconcordance, where the body's reactions to arousal do not always match our feelings.
🌸 Here's how the study was conducted
In her studies, Dr. Nagoski used both laboratory experiments and self-reported data. Participants were exposed to various sexual stimuli while their physical arousal was measured with sensors for vaginal moisture and other physiological methods. At the same time, they reported how mentally and emotionally aroused they felt.
🌸 What was found
The results often showed a mismatch between the body's physical signs of arousal and the participants' mental experiences. For example, women could become physically aroused (such as increased vaginal moisture) without feeling sexually aroused and sometimes they could feel mentally aroused without the body showing the typical physical signs.
Dr. Nagoski's research showed that this is completely normal and nothing to worry about. She explained that the body's reactions do not always reflect our inner feelings and thoughts. This insight helps create a more understanding and relaxed attitude towards sexual arousal, which can reduce anxiety and improve relationships❤️.

WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?
Physiological and subjective arousal are controlled by different systems in the brain. Physiological arousal, such as vaginal moisture, is often an automatic response to various stimuli, including those not directly related to sexual desire. Subjective arousal, on the other hand, is influenced by our thoughts, feelings, and the specific situation.
This is an important difference to understand. Physiological arousal can be triggered by everything from physical stimulation to hormonal changes, while subjective arousal is about how we actually feel in the moment. So it is entirely possible for the body to react while the mind is elsewhere – and vice versa.
WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WHEN BODY AND MIND ARE NOT IN SYNC
Understanding arousal nonconcordance is important for having a healthy view of sexual arousal and pleasure. It helps us realize that it is normal when the body and mind are not always in sync and can reduce stress and worry in such situations. By being aware of these differences, one can more easily manage them in a positive way.
This concept also emphasizes the importance of communication and understanding in sexual relationships. When we understand that it is natural to sometimes feel a mismatch between body and mind, we can better communicate our needs and experiences to our partners. This creates an environment of trust and openness, where both parties can work together to ensure a satisfying sexual experience ❤️
USE LUBRICANT TO ENHANCE THE EXPERIENCE
It's absolutely not "cheating" to use lubricant because you're not wet enough. A vagina can be super aroused but not wet at all, or soaking wet but completely uninterested. Lubricant can be a practical solution to handle the physical aspects of arousal nonconcordance and ensure that sexual activity is comfortable and enjoyable, even when the body's natural moisture does not match one's level of arousal.
VAGIVITAL LAUNCHES LUBRICANT
So how do you know if you want to have sex? The only way is to try to feel in both head, mind, and body. Using lubricant makes you more sensitive and also reduces friction on sensitive parts. Lubricant is not just a tool for women with dry mucous membranes but works perfectly as a sex toy that can enhance sensation ❤️
This fall we will launch our own lubricant VagiVital ACTIVE GLIDE based on VagiVital ActiveGel, known for its moisturizing properties. Our new lubricant will offer the same fantastic moisture as AktivGel, but with even more sliiiide for a smooth and pleasant experience 🙌
VagiVital AktivGel is a hormone-free gel clinically proven at Swedish university hospitals with fantastic results for dry mucous membranes, irritation and itching in the genital area, as well as pain during intercourse and urination.
Our moisturizing lubricant naturally also has the same properties as its big sister AktivGel ❤️ as it is:
🌸 Perfume-free
🌸 pH-friendly
🌸 Moisturizing
🌸 Water-based
🌸 Without parabens
And most importantly – it really feels like natural vaginal secretion 🙌❤️
By increasing awareness of arousal nonconcordance, women and their partners can better understand and accept that it is a natural part of the human sexual experience. Communication is crucial in a relationship, but some topics can be difficult to discuss. Next time your body and mind aren't quite in sync, breathe out and remember that it's completely normal ❤️
Talk to your partner – in the end, it's about creating an experience where both feel comfortable and satisfied.
Take care of yourself & Stay Pussytive ❤️
